Green News Now: CBD oil vs Hemp Oil?

What is the difference between CBD oil and Hemp Oil? Or the difference between Cannabis and Hemp? Or even Cannabis and Marijuana? This can be confusing for many consumers because these terms are often interchanged. Though CBD is found in both Marijuana and Hemp plants and both plants come from the same genius, cannabis, and both plants are not created qual. So lets start at the top and identify these twins.

Marijuana/Cannabis Indica

-Marijuana plants produce high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) exceeding 20%. This is the cannabinoid the produces a euphoric “high” but it also carries many other positive compounds.

-It also produces small amount over CBD hovering around 10% on average. There are some CBD oils made from marijuana that have been bread to have little not no THC compounds.

-Several noted medical uses such as chronic and debilitant pain, Alzheimer’s, PTSD and several other ailments.

Hemp/Industrial Hemp/Cannabis Sativa

-Hemp is the Federally legal plant and has to be less than 0.3% THC for legal sales in all states.

-It produces CBD at 20% or higher depending on maturity and strain.

-CBD oil from the Hemp plant uses the whole plant including stalks and flower. Though some manufacturers use just the flower to produce high concentrate CBD oil.

-Stalks and stems can be used to create paper, ropes, textiles, plastics, oil …the list goes on and on.

Hemp Oil/Cannabis Sativa

-Hemp oil contains 0% THC and trace amounts of CBD and is made from the seeds of the cannabis sativa seeds.

- Both Hemp oil and seeds are widely used in food such as hemp seed milk, granola, Hemp flour. But you will also find Hemp oil in beauty products. Its nourishing benefits make it a super food.

-Cold Pressed for oil production can be used in foods, beauty products and paints.
