Matcha (meaning “finely powdered tea”) is strictly sourced from young green tea leaves, and The Apothecary exclusively uses certified organic sources in Japan’s Kyoto Prefecture.
Matcha means “finely powdered tea,” and it is made from young green tea leaves. All Matcha is shade grown, this is because the shading of the leaves producing extra chlorophyll which gives it its beautiful green color. Matcha comes from green tea leaves, however it is grown differently. Matcha farmers cover their plants 20-30 days before harvesting to avoid direct sunlight. This process increases the production of chlorophyll giving the plant a darker hue and in turn boosts the amino acid content.Instead of the leaves being rolled, shaped and dried like traditional tea leaves, Matcha tea leaves are dried and then ground in a slow-turning mills which creates the green tea powder. Generally, Matcha is whisked into hot water or steamed milk. Matcha tends to have more caffeine than other green teas and black tea.
The ceremonial act of drinking tea was taken up my Samurai class and high ranking members in society. The tea ceremony, The Way of Tea, is still practiced today. It is centered around the art of preparing and serving the matcha. Originally, developed as a spiritual practice the principals still very important to the tea ceremonies today.
What are the benefits of Mighty Matcha
