What is Delta 10: Everything You Need to Know About Delta 10 Tetrahydrocannabinol

The cannabis industry is projected to reach USD 90.4 billion by 2026. Due to this increasing demand, there are so many cannabinoids emerging in the market today. THC is one of the most famous and most researched cannabinoids which resulted into the discovery of its different forms or isomers. You may have heard about Delta 8, but there is another isomer of THC getting into the spotlight today. If you haven’t heard of Delta 10 isolate yet, we got you covered!

What Is Delta 10 THC?
Since the discovery of THC in 1964, cannabis researchers discovered its many forms, chemically known as isomers. Isomers are compounds that share an identical chemical formula but are arranged differently. The most famous THC found in marijuana is chemically known as Delta 9 THC.  Delta 8 THC and Delta 10 THC are isomers of THC, with different structures that resulted into new pharmacological properties.

The slight differences in chemical structure could mean an entirely new experience for the user. Trying out these different versions of THC other than delta 9 offers a new “high” while experiencing its unique effects and benefits.

Delta 10 was actually discovered by accident by Fusion Farms in California, while extracting THC distillate from a batch of cannabis that was contaminated with fire retardant. It formed these mysterious crystals that were originally misidentified as the cannabinoids CBC and CBL, and then properly identified as Delta 10 after months of research. These days, delta 10 is made using a conversion process similar to the one used for producing delta 8 concentrate. This is also the reason behind its clear appearance.

Does Delta 10 get you high? Delta 10 THC Effects
Since delta 10 is an isomer of THC, the answer is yes, Delta 10 does get you high. Delta 10 has a potential to get you high, but it is said to be less intense than  THC-O, delta 8 or delta 9. Users reported the experience to be more of a “head buzz than a full body high.”

Delta 10 is known to have a weaker affinity for binding to the CB1 receptors, which is the reason why it has milder effects. Users also reported that the effects of delta 10 is similar to a Sativa high, versus an Indica high, and comes with less paranoia and anxiety.

How Does Delta 10 THC Affect The Body?
All cannabinoids, like Delta 10, interact with the body through our endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a very important role in the human body for our survival. This is due to its critical role in maintaining the homeostasis of the human body, which encompasses the brain, endocrine, and immune system, to name a few.

Our bodies have these so-called cannabinoid (CB) receptors which are involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory.

There are currently two known sub-types of cannabinoid receptors, termed CB1 and CB2. The CB1 receptor is expressed mainly in the brain (central nervous system or "CNS"), but also in the lungs, liver and kidneys. The CB2 receptor is expressed mainly in the immune system and in hematopoietic cells, however further research has found the existence of these receptors in parts of the brain as well.

Limited research has been done on its mechanism of action in the body, however Delta-10 likely interacts with the endocannabinoid system similarly as other THC compounds. Delta-9 THC and Delta-8 THC have binding affinities towards CB1 receptors in the brain and nervous system, which produce varying levels of psychotropic effects. Delta-10 may interact similarly with CB1 receptors at high concentrations.

Are there high Delta-10-THC strains?
As of this writing, you won’t find naturally occurring Delta 10 strains on the market today. To produce this mysterious cannabinoid, processors must carefully conduct one of a variety of scientific procedures that transforms CBD into Delta-10. Most of today’s Delta 10 products are made by altering the structure of CBD isolate.

How Can I Take Delta-10 THC?
As mentioned, Delta 10 is most popularly consumed as an isolate. However, many companies sell Delta 10 distillate. Delta 10 distillate is an impure, low quality version of delta 10 and should be avoided. The truth is that D10 distillates contain low quantities of actual delta 10 and are instead corrupt with intermediary / floating isomers. However, it's important to note that not all distillates are bad - what matters is, when you take the THC in it's purest form, does it crystalize into an isolate or is it stable as a distillate? Delta 8 for example is stable as a distillate whereas delta 10 is only stable as an isolate.

As its usage becomes more widespread, we can expect there to be many other forms of enjoying it later on. We can hopefully soon expect more Delta 10 THC in the form of vapes, sublingual oils, and edibles as more research will be conducted.

What Are The Effects And Benefits Of Delta 10?
Not much research is done about the benefits of consuming Delta 10, but it is safe to assume that the following benefits are also the same effects with consuming its isomers, delta 9 and delta 8. These effects and benefits are also reported by consumers who tried delta 10.

Neuroprotective properties
Calming and stress-relieving
Energy-boosting and mental euphoria
Mental Euphoria
Socializing
Pain Relief
Nausea and Appetite

Delta 10 THC can potentially make the brain healthier
This isomer of THC can offer neuroprotective properties. Some research suggests that Delta-8 THC could help people produce Acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter. As Delta 10 closely related to Delta 8 THC in terms of structure, let’s assume the same. This neurotransmitter is responsible for memory, cognition, neuroplasticity, and even arousal.

Delta 10 THC shows potential in relieving stress
This doesn’t mean that the stress-relieving properties we seek out in hemp aren’t potentially abundant in delta 10, but a lot of people who have tried Delta 10 have shared that it does help them feel calm, but not in the sleepy sense. Instead, it may simply help quiet the nervous system when those stress levels get too high.

Delta 10 may be an energy-booster
Delta 10 is most commonly associated with being a more energizing form of THC, again, much like a sativa compared to an indica. If you love delta 8 for its relaxing properties but find that sometimes you want something that gives you more of a boost, then delta 10 may be exactly what you’re looking for. Already, people are talking about its distinctive “buzz” that keeps them clear-minded, focused, and ready to take on the day ahead.

Delta 10 THC may be good for socializing
If you tend to be self-conscious in social settings, Delta 10  may be good for you. Because of its potential to both calm the mind and give us an energy lift, Delta 10 may be a good choice for those times when we wish to be more social.

Delta 10 THC may help in pain relief
Cannabinoids are commonly associated with pain relief due to their interaction with cannabinoid receptors that balance both inflammation levels and pain receptor sensitivity. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Delta 10 is being suggested as yet another choice for pain relief. We don’t know yet specifically which cannabinoid receptors Delta-10 has an affinity for, however, based upon our understanding pertaining to the endocannabinoid system in general, it probably has some type of analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity

Delta 10 THC may help with appetite and nausea
Both isomers of Delta 10, Delta 8 and Delta 9 are associated with nausea relief and improvement in appetite. We can assume that delta 10 also can help with these health concerns as well.

Will Delta-10 THC Show Up In A Drug Test?
Yes, because it is closely related to Delta 9 THC. Always keep in mind that Delta 10 could still potentially cause you to fail a drug test. Most testing facilities today are not yet able to distinguish between various THC isomers. That means it could come up as positive for Delta 9 THC. If you know you will be subjected to any kind of drug testing, you should avoid using Delta 10 THC products altogether.

Is Delta 10 THC Legal?
As of this writing, Delta-10 THC derived from cannabis is illegal due to the fact that marijuana is a schedule 1 controlled substance. However, Delta-10 derived from hemp extract exists in a legal gray zone due to the 2018 Farm Bill.

It states that, “All synthetically derived tetrahydrocannabinols remain schedule I controlled substances.” The issue with that statement is the DEA has not defined what constitutes “synthetically derived.”

Final Notes On Delta 10 THC
Delta 10 is one of the newer isomers of THC, with slightly different chemical structure, but can offer a psychoactive high. Due to its slight difference in chemical structure, this can result in unique effects and benefits, but little research is still known about this area. For now, we can assume that Delta 10 offers the same benefits as its “brothers.”

A rule of thumb: If you are suffering from any kind of health condition, it's always best to consult with your doctor or physician first before using any Delta 10 THC cannabis products.
